What is Branches? 

Branches Books & Gifts, in Oakhurst, California, is a locally-owned, independent bookstore featuring regional titles, bestsellers, local authors, guidebooks, cards, journals, toys, games and more. We are staffed by well-read, friendly booksellers and we look forward to helping you find just the right book for you, whether you're shopping online with us or in person.

Our primary goal is to foster a lifetime love of learning, exploring and books!

In Oakhurst, that means carrying a lot of paperback fiction (classics for sure) and non-fiction, cookbooks, board books, and absurdly cute cards and stationery. In addition, we're fiends for a good event, from the classic author reading and Q&A to Reptile events, local artist Trunk Shows and music events. We're a small operation, just 1500 square feet, but we have so much fun here, it all works out.

Why Oakhurst? 

Because it is absolutely gorgeous here, we are very near the Tunnel View Entrance to Yosemite National Park and this little community rocks. We also have a thing for gorgeous poufy clouds (which there are an abundance of up here!), but that’s a different subject.

When can I visit Branches? 

Branches is open seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday - Saturday and 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Sundays. We're closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. You can shop for audiobooks and ebooks 24 hours a day, 365 days a year online.

Will Branches carry my book / have an event for my book?

How does Branches feel about surprises?

Good, as long as they are food, drink, or flowers.

What if I want a book and Branches doesn't have it in stock?

That's okay. We order books all the time and can usually have what you want in about 2 days. In fact, you don't even have to leave your house to see if we have a book in stock. Just search for it using the search tool in the upper right hand corner. You'll be able to see if it's currently in stock and if so, how many are here. Then, whether it's in stock or not, you can buy it but select "pick up in store," so there's no shipping charge, and you still get to see our smiling faces. So easy!

Is there somewhere I can get a drink or dinner while I'm nearby?

Is it totally awesome to work in a bookstore because you get to sit and read all day?

It is totally awesome to work in a bookstore, yes, but you absolutely do not get to sit and read all day.

Can I use a credit card at Branches?

Yes, but we will love you 2-5% more if you use cash.

What's the deal with refunds?

All books in good condition can be exchanged within seven days with a receipt.

When will my books arrive?

If you buy them in the store, they will arrive in your hands immediately.

If you buy them online, that depends on how you ship them. We try to process all online orders as soon as possible and do so at least every 24 hours. Books that are in the store at the time of your order go out immediately. Most other books ship within 2-4 days of your order, unless they are not in stock at our warehouse. You should get an email from us when we process your order letting you know exactly what the deal is with your particular books. UPS and FedEx orders tend to arrive 1-3 days after the ship; priority mail in 2-4 days. Media mail can take up to a month but usually only takes a week or so.

Is there any chance that you have some sort of boilerplate legal mumbo-jumbo that you're required to put on your website somewhere so that you can process credit cards for online orders?

Why yes, there is. It follows:

It encrypts all of your personal information, including credit card number, name, and address, so that it cannot be read over the Internet.
